LIDAR is new technology to catch speeders on the road. some police, town and state have started using this technology but not all. all i no is that mass state cops have started using it cause i got pulled over by a state cop who used it. the thing with this is that it is vertually indetectable by your radar detector but even if u get lucky and your radar detector does detect it, its too late you've been caught if you were speeding. it uses and inferred laser beem that they can point at a reflective part of your car, it realizes how fast the car reflects this around it and the LIDAR determines how fast your going. also the beem reaches for a very long distance, because with me i saw the cop on 495 and was doing like 80 i slowed down like normally and figured i wouldn't get pulled over because i saw him so far away and i was in traffic i was wrong he pulled me over!!! so watch out!
